I and partner have/had 4 dogs out of the shelter. I think that more people should do that..of course, you have to be able to do so financially. My husband died 4 yrs ago and our Jack Russell would watch for him to come in the front door everytime he heard a car drive up. He went blind from cataracts and couldn/t hear very well and was having seizures and He missed his Master so very much. I suffered with him for him. Dogs living outside does not make them messed up lol there were clearly other factors at play. My dog lived outside for four years, and he’s the most well tempered and best dog I’ve ever had. My husband rescued a beautiful little Persian-like kitty (she doesn’t have the flat face) who’s also part Siamese. Anyway, while she thinks he’s “hung the moon”, she barely tolerates me. If they need to climb up trees they can, but then again, I’ve never seen a cat in constant pain because of Being de-clawed. I think that if you get it done by a vet with experience and with a passion for these animals, they’ll do it in a way that hurts them the least in terms of long-term health.  A friend told me the story of someone they knew who had to make a decision whether or not to declaw their cat or give them antibiotics for the rest of their cat's life because it had some kind of
