I’m going to go ahead and say that most people who say they have a wolf-dog truly do not, or they have something that’s extremely low content... e.g., 5% or so, which is basically just a dog. If you have a true “hybrid”, it would not be just as wonderful of a pet like a dog. It will dig holes in your yard, get into everything, escape, chew things to pieces, and always be just a tad bit more interested in doing whatever it wants first. Love Heart Nurse Shirt. They’re still lovable and amazing, but there’s a reason many people with actual wolf dogs can’t handle them and end up sending them to sanctuaries like this one. Agree that they’re lovely, but wish people would just breed dogs and let wolves be wolves. I find it to be dangerous and misleading when people say they have a “wolf dog” and promote it to be some sort of wonderful, Lassie-like pet without also sharing the reality of what it takes to truly keep them safe and happy. Love Heart Nurse Shirt. Because people who buy them create demand, which creates breeders. This is a designer dog like any other designer dog breed, it shouldn't exist and breed them is irresponsible and just causes problems. Maybe you're great with your dog, that's fine, but it's a bigger issue than one person. Higher demand just means more of these animals being put down. Most people can't handle a dog like this, that's a fact. A lot of them also simply can't live a pet life, sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.

If people rescue these hybrids and can provide the conditions they need, then that's great - it takes special people to do that, and I agree, that of course, those people like yourself ARE out there. But for every responsible owner who gets one from a breeder, how many others are unintentionally condemning their animal to a life of suffering and possibly early death? If anyone has the special circumstances and commitment for a wolf hybrid, then they should seek out those that have been given up on by their previous owners so there is one less suffering animal in the world, rather than contribute to the negative cycle that Chris Pritchard describes, which creates more, and exists for profit before welfare.
