None of them had any trouble climbing a tree, jumping, fighting, or catching small creatures. They died of cancer, liver failure, the usual stuff. For many cats, having claws = being homeless. My cats lived comfortable lives. None of them had behavioral problems either. Cats climbing are a natural part of their lives. The fact you're willing to take that away from them is disgusting behavior. They would have had little stimulation in your house and I feel sorry for them. Especially considering they can't even go outside. But I don't have to do that, my leather furniture survives because I choose to take my time with the cats to teach them. Maybe people need to realize a pet isn't a fashionable accessory and demands time. If you prefer to spend some cash to declaw them instead of teaching your furry friend, then I surely hope you don't reproduce. Took my cat to the shelter because he kept scratching my 1-year-old human baby. It was tough but the right choice, I called a month later to see if he had been adopted and he was still in the shelter. Called a month later after that and found out he was euthanized. Moral of the story: declaw your cat if necessary and don't be scared by what others think of you if you do it.


For my furever friend, he was scratching my wife and my son to the point of neither of them enjoying him. I put up with the cuts in an attempt to bond, but he was a playful cat with scratch habits. My wife (a groomer) was completely against declawing until she had enough of the scratches and refused to give him up. I talked to my vet who talked me out of the pricier laser procedure, stating that it is harder for them to heal since the laser pseudo cauterizes the wound before it has a chance to close. (she persuaded me to do the less expensive, higher success rate method) My cat was running around 24 hours after surgery, used a paper shreddings litter box for a week and the only change we noticed was a sweeter cat.
