One day before I dropped off my cat at my friend's place for a trip, I stopped at a pet store to get cat nail tip covers for my cat. Uncle Snoopy Shirt. The store clerk said I should consider declawing as she did on her cat. I said no it's very cruel and damaging operation on cats. Her response was "oh I found a very good vet to do it for mine". Amputation is amputation no matter how expensive your vets charge you. Cats have claws and they will scratch if you can't handle that they don't get a cat. You can't modify an animal for your convenience. God forbid something happens to the owner or the cat gets lost and ends up on street, how are they supposed to defend themselves if they don't have claws? Uncle Snoopy Shirt. You don't cut through bone to declaw... there's a ligament holding the claw in place and veterinarians simply sever the ligament either with a laser or some other means. Done young, and through a trusted veterinarian, declawed cats do great. If a cat being declawed means they get to keep their forever home, then by all means, I support it. While I agree that it is NOT a good thing to declaw, my family has, over many years, had a number of cats that were declawed and they did not suffer from any odd walking, arthritis, or any other infirmary associated even remotely with the procedure. Having said that, it may well be that many vets are not GOOD at the procedure, and that is what may cause problems for the kitty.


I didn't know anything about cats when our cat wandered in to adopt us. When I took him to our dog's vet to get declawed, he refused to do it and educated me about why he would not do this procedure. I was so thankful that he was such a great vet and that I didn't do this to our sweet kitty. Besides being cruel, he said that if the cat ever got outside, he'd have no way to defend himself. I've had declawed cats. They were perfectly happy and healthy. The only real issue with declawing is doing it later in life. It does seem to bother older cats for several months, but the 2 I had declawed around 3-4 months old were back to playing in less than a week.

If they need to climb up trees they can, but then again, I’ve never seen a cat in constant pain because of Being de-clawed. I think that if you get it done by a vet with experience and with a passion for these animals, they’ll do it in a way that hurts them the least in terms of long-term health.  A friend told me the story of someone they knew who had to make a decision whether or not to declaw their cat or give them antibiotics for the rest of their cat's life because it had some kind of

I didn't report it and I certainly should have done more to let her know why it's so inappropriate.
