Demand economics versus laws. Guess which wins? Illegal vs. legal is a matter of ink on pulp. Now suppliers that won't and suppliers that will determine if the act will be performed by professionals or not. Slippery slope outcome, many cats will be domestic cats abandoned to the wild. Our vet said he wouldn't normally declaw a cat, but for Norton, he said he would end up getting his claws stuck in things and could end up hanging by his toes for hours when we are gone at work. I didn't want to do it. Norton did turn into a stalker and a biter after this procedure. My cat was a hurricane Matthew survivor. At 1.5pds he had to get his leg amputated (he was stuck on the water surrounded fallen tree for several days with a rope caught around his leg). No one could get to him until the power people made it through to shit off the downed lines. I trained him early to scratch appropriate items. It took work, but he's a great cat now. I have had many cats over the years and only did this once. Luckily he did not have any physical problems with the procedure, but he went through a rough two weeks of recovery being bandaged up past his 'elbows'. Plus his sister wouldn't go near him during that time. I vowed to never put a cat through that again! I adopted a 13-year-old cat. Found out she was declawed. And yes. She bites and she hates when people go near her paws. And she has the awkward gate and out turned paws. I've never liked that people declaw, cut off tails, and ears of their pets just to suit their wants or needs. With previous cats, I always give them the toys and scratching posts to make sure they don't scratch up the furniture. Don't be lazy. Be a responsible and proactive pet owner.
