My kitty was found in an alley and ended up needing surgery to remove one of her eyes, she was a little aggressive at first, my pup was also found way before she was done needing her mother/siblings and so I tried what worked on my dog - whenever she bit or clawed too hard I audibly said ow! In a tone that made it seem I was genuinely hurt. Helped a ton! My cat always bit my nose I had to pinch her behind the ear until she let go to teach her that it hurts now she doesn't bite me or anyone anymore just a little tough love and she is the sweetest now. Have you tried biting back? Sounds silly but I taught a cat by a little nip on the ear(least hairy place) only had to do it 4 or so times and not too hard. Just enough si they realized. I don’t know what happened to him before I adopted him, but it was bad, and he doesn’t forget. He never purrs. He only shows affection with a head bonk. He’s difficult, but we are making progress, and I love him a whole lot. My cat was at the shelter and his siblings were adopted before him. Being sick he was alone in quarantine so he never learned kitty manners. His sister was also had a hard time learning them so now at age 4 and age 1 they are teaching each other. I got them both when they were 3 months old.

We fed a feral cat for about five years. He was an orange tabby. Really scruffy looking. The only time he would let me touch him was when he was eating. Otherwise, it left me alone. Then one day in the really cold winter he came into the house and had never done that before. He hid for a little while and we knew something was wrong. He let us put him in a crate and go to the vet. They told us he was really old and was ready to die. He was very sweet! This is a wonderful story, especially for the older feral cat. He seems to have a purpose now which probably makes him a much more homey type cat. Good for you that this works out and get for that old man.

If they need to climb up trees they can, but then again, I’ve never seen a cat in constant pain because of Being de-clawed. I think that if you get it done by a vet with experience and with a passion for these animals, they’ll do it in a way that hurts them the least in terms of long-term health.  A friend told me the story of someone they knew who had to make a decision whether or not to declaw their cat or give them antibiotics for the rest of their cat's life because it had some kind of
